DESCRIPTION:

A panel of cultural studies and humanities experts will discuss themes addressed in the CAC’s current HairStories exhibition.
Panelists include Dr. Clyde Robertson, Director of Africana & Multicultural Studies, Orleans Parish Public Schools; Dr. Danille Taylor, Dean of Humanities, Dillard University; Dr. Nghana Tami Lewis, English Professor, LSU; Dr. Joseph Caldwell, History Professor, UNO; and Dwana Makeda, Professor of African-American History, SUNO, and a licensed cosmetologist. Carol Bebelle, Director of the Ashe Cultural Arts Gallery, will moderate.
Topics will range from the "good hair" versus "bad hair" debate to how hair is used as a metaphor for freedom and enslavement in black women's writing.
