Teens With Attitude (TWA) is asking for your support this Thursday, 5/19, as they lead a march from the corner of Pauline and St. Claude Avenue to the 5th District Police Station (Claiborne and Alvar, approximately 6 blocks). Since late March, TWA has been supporting the Justice for Jenard Thomas Committee in standing up against police brutality and terror in their community.
Jenard "Nordy" Thomas was killed by 2 police officers on March 24, 2005. Mr. Thomas was shot 10 times and leaves behind a wife and three small children. The Jenard Thomas Justice Committee is calling for the two officers involved to be prosecuted and jailed, and for those officers participating in the cover-up to be fired.
In honor of Malcolm X's 80th birthday, TWA has organized a march to the regular rally place (5th District Police Station) in hopes of having neighborhood residents join them. We are working to confirm musicians who can accompany the march. Speakers for the rally include Maria Hernandez and Ernest Moore, TWA members, and Malcolm Suber of the Justice for Jenard Committee. Students have also worked this week to prepare signs, chants and a press release.
TWA a volunteer high school student group that is part of the Frederick A. Douglass Community Coalition (FDCC).
Please come join TWA at 3:30 this Thursday in their effort to fight for justice for themselves and the community! Please forward this information to those you think might be interested and able to support!
