The U.S. Senate is now considering legislation, H.R. 1227, that would order HANO to reopen 3,000 units of New Orleans public housing by August 1, impose a moratorium on the demolition of local public housing and expedite the distribution of more than a billion dollars in federal aid to assist in the rebuilding of privately owned storm devastated homes. The enactment of H.R. 1227 would constitute a huge victory for forces committed to the right to return. On Tuesday June 19, 2007 supporters of H.R. 1227 are holding a vigil and rally in front the Federal District Building in the CBD of New Orleans.
All friends of the right to return are urged to participate in the Tuesday action. Let's make clear to the Senators of Louisiana that the people New Orleans are for 1227. There will be speakers from various grass roots organizations to adress the rally followed by an open mike. Creative expressions of support for H.R. 1227 are encouraged.
