WTUL and TUCP are proud to announce that Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now!, will be speaking at 5 p.m. April 8 at McAlister Auditorium on the Tulane campus. The show will be free and open to the public.
Democracy Now! is being aired from 8-10 a.m. Saturdays. It is one of public broadcasting’s fastest growing programs. The show adheres to its independent status, and is funded entirely through contributions from listeners, viewers, and foundations. To maintain its independence from corporate sponsorship, the program does not accept advertisers, donations from corporations, or donations from governments. Goodman has been hosting the program since 1996, and has helped vault the program from appearing only on Pacifica Radio Network to more than 350 stations nationwide. The broadcasts are also available online at http://www.democracynow.org.
In addition to her work with Democracy Now!, Goodman is the co-author of the national best-seller The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media that Love Them, which was written with her brother, journalist and author David Goodman. The book was released in 2004.
Goodman will be speaking about How the American Media Compromise Democracy.
