Sugarbowl Housing Action

Supporters of New Orleans public housing will distribute anti-demolition fliers to partygoers at the Sugar Bowl Fan Jam just outside the Super Dome on January 1, 2008. The fliers distributed at this event will include a list of businesses known to support the demolition of local public housing. Fans will be urged to boycott these businesses while in New Orleans. Party goers will also be urged to contact the U.S. Senators in their home state and to demand that these elected officials use their influence to secure the passage of Senate Bill 1668.

Intervention at the Fan Jam provides the public housing movement with an opportunity to draw national attention to the public housing struggle now underway in New Orleans. At the same time intervention at the Fan Jam will provide the movement with an opportunity to win new allies from Hawaii and Georgia.

The Superbowl Fan Jam will be held on New Year’s Day at the Lousiana Superdome(Gate C Bridge). The event is scheduled to run from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. It is free.

Resident and non-resident supporters of the struggle to reopen public housing will gather 4pm New Year’s Day on the sidewalk in front of the 1515 Poydras Building across the street from the Superdome.

If you need additional information please contact Mike of the Action Committee at (504) 587-0080.
