HELP BUILD A PUBLIC WORKS PROPOSAL FOR NEW ORLEANS
As the economic crisis deepens it becomes clearer each day that a mass public works program is needed to stave off catastrophe for the people of New Orleans and the rest of the country. Only the federal government can marshal the resources needed to institute the sort of public works program that seriously addresses the needs of the people in this community. However, the federal government will concede such a program only if the people demand it.
President-elect Obama says he is committed to a federal public works program. The question for New Orleanians is whether his public works program will address our needs.
If we want a public works program that provides:
Skills training and jobs at a living wage-
The prompt restoration of Charity Hospital-
One for one replacement of public housing-
Meaningful wetlands and coastal restoration-
Streets and roads without potholes-
Safe water, sewerage, and recycling-
And what else?
Then we must start organizing now!
