The so-called ‘Louisiana Recovery Authority’ has never given a dime to renters, and not enough to low-income homeowners, to help them recover. Nonetheless this outfit is inviting HUD secretary Donovan to an invitation-only breakfast to, in their words hold a “stakeholder conversation about how HUD can support ongoing recovery efforts.” Well, even though we were not invited, we’re going to deliver our message on what is needed for a real recovery for still suffering Katrina-survivors:
• HUD and HANO must Enforce section 3 of the 1968 housing act and begin hiring at local, low-wage workers for the HUD funded construction jobs
• 1 for 1 replacement for all the public housing apartments demolished
• no demolition or reduction of units at Iberville. Removal of Downtown Development District representatives from the Iberville Advisory Committee
