Title: potluck/discussion for public works program
START DATE: 11/5/2009
START TIME: 7:00 PM
Duration: 2 Hours
Location: Treme
Location Details:
The potluck/discussion on the fight for a mass public works program will meet in St. Jude\'s Basin Hall at 410 Basin Street. Basin Hall is across the street from St. Louis Cemetary.
Event Topic: fighting unemployment
Event Type: Lecture/Teach-in
Contact Name: michael howells
Contact Email: howellnow@bellsouth.net
Contact Phone: 504-587-0080
DESCRIPTION:
This potluck /discussion focuses on building the grass roots support that is needed to make a mass public works program open to all who need it a reality. The ongoing Great Recession and the post-Katrina dismantling of public services in N.O. make apparent in the starkest possible way that a mass public works program is desperately needed here. The question addressed at this event is what people in N.O. can do to help achieve the critical mass from below that compels the creation of a national public works project.

The event will begin with a potluck followed by presentations addressing the demand for a national public works program that pays a living wage. An open discussion will follow with a focus on what can be done here to organize around the demand that the government authorize and fund the sort of mass public works programs that working class people need.

The event is free and open to all. If possible, participants are encouraged to contribute to the potluck ,though this is not required.

The sponsors of the event are the Peoples Job Fair and C3/Hands Off Iberville. For additional information call 504-597-0080.
