The Second Anniversary Of The Public Housing Battle At New Orleans City Hall.

On December 20, 2007 hundreds of supporters of the Right of Return braved police state style repression at New Orleans City Hall to voice opposition to the demolition of the Big Four public housing developments. Police, at the behest of the New Orleans Mayor and City Council, used brute force in and around City Hall to prevent public housing residents and supporters from voicing opposition to the demolition of 5,000 public housing apartments at a “public” meeting. Public housing supporters attempting to participate in the meeting of City Council on this date were locked out, beaten, maced, tasered and arrested in and near Council Chambers. In spite of this repression supporters of public housing persisted in voicing opposition to the destruction of the Big Four.

You are invited to a celebration of the December 20th resistance to social cleansing and repression. This same gathering raises demands for a more just future. This event will include speakers and an open mike. Bring signs, banners, chants and, most importantly, yourself.
*That the Mayor and City Council formerly apologize for the repression they unleashed against public housing supporters on December 20, 2007.*
*One for one replacement of all five thousand units of public housing demolished post-Katrina.*
*A federally funded and administered public works program that pays a living wage to all who need it.*
*The prompt withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Iraq*
