SHARON JASPER: A VOICE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND PUBLIC HOUSING THAT HANO AND REAL ESTATE DEVELOPERS CANNOT SILENCE!
Sharon Jasper is an uncompromising and outspoken opponent of the relentless post-Katrina campaign by the government and Louisiana’s economic elite to purge the poor and African-Americans from New Orleans. She has been in the forefront of the resistance to the destruction of the city’s public housing, the exposure of corruption at the Housing Authority of New Orleans and the defense of the free speech rights of the city’s poor people. The Housing Authority of New Orleans, the Crescent City political establishment and real estate developers have used both the carrot and the stick in futile attempts to silence Sharon. The robber barons of New Orleans have attempted to silence Sharon with job offers. When that didn’t work HANO and Columbia Residential, a development firm, engineered a politically motivated arrest and prosecution of Sharon. Sharon continued to speak out for housing justice. HANO than sought to have Sharon’s housing assistance revoked. But a grass roots fight back forced HANO to abandon its attempt to cut off Sharon’s housing assistance. She continues to speak out for public housing, including the Iberville Housing Development, and other causes dear to working class New Orleanians.
Come listen to the important message of hope and resistance Sharon has for working class and African-American New Orleanians seeking justice in a profoundly unjust status quo.
