A Grass Roots Film Production: FIGHTING THE HANO POWER GRAB! On May 12, 2011, twenty New Orleanian freedom fighters held a direct action in front of the Seventh Ward law office of Senator Edwin Murray to speak out against a Louisiana Senate bill that, if passed, gives the security detail of the Housing Agency of New Orleans, a post Katrina hotbed of public sector corruption, the power of arrest. This brief film captures local voices of resistance to a profoundly unjust status quo. Many in this brief film have made historic contributions to the fight to defend affordable housing for all in pre- and post-Katrina New Orleans. These include local civil rights legend Andy Washington(91 years old), veteran West Bank human rights activist Eloise Williams, public housing freedom fighters Sharon and Kawana Jasper, longtime grass roots revolutionary Reverend Raymond Brown, Rebecca Glover-aunt of NOPD murder victim Henry Glover, and others Come see a brief film that gives voice to New Orleanians who refuse to allow the influence of money or political setbacks prevent them from publicly opposing yet another attempt by the masters of Lousiana's largest city to deepen the already savage repression being directed against the local working class and people of color. A brief discussion will follow the film showing. Admission to the film is free. All are welcome. FIGHTING THE HANO POWER GRAB 7:30 PM THURSDAY JUNE 2, 2011 ST.
