Repairable Public Housing Demolished While FEMA Pushes Families Into the Streets
On June 13th the Bush Administration issued a declaration of war on public housing in New Orleans. The HUD proposal to "redevelop" public housing would accomplish what Hurricane Katrina could not do...destroy the lion's share, about 70%, of the city's existing public housing stock. Such a development would, in effect, permanently exile tens of thousands of Katrina survivors now stranded far from home.
