In order to publicize and promote the unity that exists in our City amongst our citizens and organizations of various racial, religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, the New Orleans branch of the NAACP is hosting a UNITY RALLY, this Saturday, May 29, 2004, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Treme Center, 900 N. Villere Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Community leaders, religious leaders and neighborhood organizations will highlight the various programs they sponsor that focus on improving the quality of life in our City. Some of the Participating organizations include: the NAACP, the Urban League, C3, ERACE, the Leanne Knot Violence Against Women Prevention Project (a consortium of Universities: Tulane/SUNO/UNO), and Muhammad Mosque #46.

In addition to publicizing the unity that exists in our City, the Unity Rally will also serve to give our citizens, and the local and national media, an alternative impression to the impression generated by the national conference of right wing groups planned by David Duke and his supporters, scheduled to be held in New Orleans from May 28, 2004 through May 30, 2004. It is important that the news is spread that not all of the citizens of New Orleans are bigoted and full of hatred based on race, ethnicity and religion . It is important that the news is spread that there are people in our City that are crossing racial, religious, cultural and ethnic divides to work together to improve the quality of life in our City. The Unity Rally is helping to spread that news. Please join us and attend the Unity Rally. For more information, please call (504) 528-9700.
