The residents of Lewisburg Square apartments in Gretna, like many many tenants in the New Orleans area, are facing imminent eviction as the 'temporary freeze' made by governor kathleen blanco is lifted on oct. 25th.
The manager of Lewisburg Square has told different tenants different things: some were told they have to leave Tuesday, the 25th, some the 31st, and others were told November 7th. But all of them were told they have to leave -- but no eviction order has been served, no inspection has been made of the properties -- it seems like simply another attempt by landlords to scare off low-rent paying tenants and use 'storm insurance' money to rebuild and put in high-priced condos instead. But Gretna received little to no storm damage!! And Lewisburg Square is in the same shape it was before the storm: dismal and neglected -- NOT because of the storm, but because of the negligent landlord.
