Statement from Jimmy Dunson after his arrest on Thursday, November 17, 2005
"I believe our judicial system is ignorant because for some strange reason it thinks that the way to lift somebody up to a higher state of mind is through intimidation, degradation and deprivation. Basically it believes in instilling fear and pain in the hope that maybe somebody will come out a better person. In reality, goodness and love are contagious, like a virus, and constantly spread to others by people first having it themselves. And the judicial system is ineffective because they try to punish me or harm me in some way, but they have no clue who I am. They can't reach my spirit, or my mind, so they take my body and put it in a cage. But I am just as free inside their cage as outside of it.
"I don't care if I disobeyed their laws or not. I am superior to all their laws, and customs, and man-made institutions. The same spirit that breathes life into the world is alive in me, breathes through me, speaks through me, and acts through me. I am going to help rebuild this city. I'm going to spread hope and peace and love. And I'm going to be a light in darkness. And fuck the law, or the NOPD, or anything or anybody that tries to stand in my way. And if anybody does try to stop me or slow me down it's going to be like dust thrown into the wind, it's gonna come right back and hit them in the face."
