Excerpts

From blogger Eli Ackerman:
"As it now stands, the Orleans Parish School Board and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education are prepared to vote on this master plan within a matter of days, though it is abundantly clear to those that have been attending public comment hearings and OPSB candidate forums that many sitting OPSB members have not even bothered to read it.
Just as problematic, opportunities for the public to comment on the master plan have been stacked in the stressful weeks following the threats of Gustav and Ike. Parents and students have not been engaged by district leadership or are otherwise and understandably consumed with immediate day-to-day struggles, made
particularly pressing in the wake of evacuation."

From Ze Daluz, Bywater resident and supporter of Frederick Douglass HS:
"The Master Plan was originally to have been released in May 2008. The plan was released at the end of August, just before a citywide evacuation for Hurricane Gustav. Many people are just now returning from that evacuation... to end the comment period October 1 is ludicrous and typical of the manner in which the current consultants are running the schools. We should at least get the 3 months extension to comment that they took in getting the plan together!"

From Rosanna Cruz, parent and community organizer:
"My child goes to a New Orleans charter school and I vote. This process was a complete joke with a minimal opportunity for true community input. "

From Reverend Marshall Truehill Jr.:
"How apalling that our political and educational leadership has lost sight of the importance of public education in New Orleans. It is a testimony to their lack of political will to make a system that has worked and is still working well in most other school districts in the United States. Maybe it a testimony to something more sinister and sinful, i.e. hatred of the poor and people of darker hued skin."

From Wayne Troyer, architect:
"The master plan needs to be more specific about creating a program to match schools that are scheduled for "land banking" with new neighborhood developments. given the RSD promotion of sustainable mandates for all facilities, demolitions are not appropriate."

additional quotes from petition
by anon Monday, Dec. 08, 2008 at 3:08 AM

From Katrena Ndang, prominent United Teacher's of New Orleans representative and former teacher:

At some point, the planners in charge of the Master Plan for Orleans Parish Schools, must listen to comments from some of the residents of New Orleans. This rebuilding scheme is about the whole city and about all the people who are vested in the city.

From Angela Dailet, director of the non-profit Save Our Schools New Orleans and mother of three boys:

The public comment and review period should be extended by a reasonable amount of time so that communities can hold meaningful and informed conversations to develop their well-thought out responses, suggestions and modification requests. Any argument against an additional 90 day extension is unfounded, specifically the false suggestion that this extension would delay or increase the cost of implementation.

The use of rechargeable laptop battery is a notebook computer desktop relative of one of the advantages that can greatly facilitate the environment in a variety of laptop use. The first is the introduction of nickel-cadmium batteries battery (NiCd), but the batteries have a "memory effect", charging each time before discharge, very easy to use, soon to be nickel-metal hydride battery (NiMH) replaced, NiMH did not "Memory effect", and per unit weight of more than 10% of the electricity to mention. At present, the most commonly used batteries are lithium-ion laptop battery (Li-Ion), it is no "memory effect", compared with the NiMH, get more weight per unit of electricity prices than double the NiMH. In the same weight, three battery life than is 1:1.2:1.9.   One way: to see him off the battery contact number, there are a few that several of the core. But this is the "minister". We take a look at notebook battery, "Cao Chong," is how "like that": you take a look at the battery's nominal number of v, such as 14.4v, and then divided by 4 to be 3.6, 4 proved to be a cell together in series. And then take a look at the entire battery capacity, such as 3800mAh, it proved to be the top two groups said the batteries in series, as the small-capacity notebook batteries for the 1500-2000mAh, and even more the need to achieve two 3800mAh. According to the two judgments, the battery is a 4 × 2 = 8 of the core.     In the purchase or replacement of notebook batteries, for many users, the "batteries" may be unfamiliar. First of all statements, batteries and battery are two concepts. A battery by a number of slightly larger than a thumb, cylindrical, about 8 centimeters high, the voltage of 3.6v small units. They are the batteries, like a small battery, after a series combination, that is, we have seen the battery. Then talk about how to judge the battery is the core of a few:     At present, the use of notebook computer batteries in three main categories: 1. Nickel-chromium laptop batteries, 2. Ni-MH battery, 3. Lithium batteries; they generally expressed as: Ni-Cd NI-CD, Ni-MH NI-MH, Li-electric LI.

Thank you so much for this sort of tutorial. In tyoads world people assume you have to be computer literate, and treat you as an imbecile if you aren't. At my age, suddenly having to learn to use a computer nearly instantly, this is a godsend. Please keep them up!!!
