On May 1 the Outreach Day at the Community Center of St Bernard will begin with a Walk at 9AM followed by a free breakfast at 10. At 11 there will be a leadership seminar, and later there will be a financial seminar at 1 PM.

On Friday, May 1, 2009 the Community Center of St Bernard at 1107 LeBeau St, Arabi will host a variety of fun and informative outreach events for local residents. The day will begin with a Breakfast Walk through scenic Old Arabi at 9 AM, led by visiting volunteer Lois Krasilovsky from Marlborough, MA. Participants will meet at the Community Center and then follow LeBeau St to the historic LeBeau Plantation House which was built in 1854. The route will continue down Friscoville St and along the Mississippi River levee. Walkers will return to the Community Center by way of Angela St, with its colorful homes and gardens.

Following the walk, participants and community members are welcome to visit the Community Center at 10 AM to enjoy a free healthy breakfast of fresh fruit and toast, served with scrambled Egg Beaters ™. Made from real eggs, Egg Beaters ™ are low in both fat and cholesterol. A handout with tips for preparing healthy, nutritious meals will also be available.

After the Breakfast, residents are invited to attend a free leadership seminar, “Thriving in Challenging and Opportunistic Times: Practical Tips for Personal and Business Success Today” at 11 AM. Taught by Scott Annan, entrepreneur and leadership educator, the talk will focus on what you can do for yourself and your business to turn any economy into one of opportunity, fulfillment, and prosperity. Scott, from New York City, serves as a financial analyst at a top-tier bank, is currently starting an online business, and leads mentorship programs in Manhattan high schools. The leadership seminar will be held at the Community Center of St Bernard Annex Building, 1111 LeBeau St. No registration is needed and everyone is invited to attend.

At 1 PM, Scott will present a second seminar: “5 Things You Should Know about Your Personal Finances”. This introductory workshop will explain basic financial principles like income, expenses, debt, credit and budgets. Participants will receive practical tips for understanding their current financial situation, and learn steps they can take to improve their financial future. The financial seminar will also be held at the Community Center of St Bernard Annex Building, 1111 LeBeau St. The seminar is free to the public and no registration is needed.
