Yvette Thierry spoke to Matt Toups and Matt Olson of WTUL News & Views on Monday, September 20th, about proposed changes to the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD). The changes require amending the city charter, and the public will have the opportunity to vote for or against the charter changes at the October 2nd election.

City Council President Arnie Fielkow has led the effort to put this proposal on the ballot, with support from Entergy New Orleans President & CEO Rod West, and local businessman Roy Glapion Jr. The proposal would transfer control of the city's recreation programs to a "public-private partnership."

Safe Streets Strong Communities is critical of the proposal, and other community organizations like the NAACP have also come out in opposition to the October 2nd charter amendment.
