Recorded at the first of a series of weekly meetings about the crackdown on live music venues in New Orleans. Held at Kermit Ruffins' Treme Speakeasy, September 26, 2012.
Thanks to Sam Jasper of http://nolaslate.blogspot.com/ for sharing the recording of this meeting.
Today we'll hear voices from a community gathering held at Kermit Ruffin's Treme Speakeasy on Wednesday September 26th. This is the first of a series of community meeting for people concerned about the zoning and noise ordinance enforcement that is seen as a way to harass and bilk musicians, artists and establishment owners.
There was standing room only and the mood was fiery. Kermit Ruffins opened the meeting, and other speakers included Tim Kappel (site Administrator at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation) Mimi (owner of Mimi's in the Marigny), Scott Hutcheson (the mayor's advisor on the cultural economy) was also on hand to speak from the point of view of the Landrieu Administration. The ongoing meetings will take place on Wednesdays at 12pm at Kermit Ruffins' Treme Speakeasy (1535 Basin St.) and will be leading up to a march on City Hall Wednesday October 24th.
